At Semoulin Packaging, innovation isn’t limited to improving processes or inventing new machines. It’s also reflected in the company’s ability to design unique packaging solutions, tailored as closely as possible to the needs of its clients. Behind this bespoke approach lies rare expertise, fueled by attentive listening, strong industrial agility, and a deep understanding of technical constraints. It’s a philosophy rooted in the company’s history, which has always put creativity at the heart of personalized packaging development.
When the client imagines it, Semoulin brings it to life
At Semoulin Packaging, a custom packaging solution isn’t just a logo slapped on a bag or a size adjustment. It often starts from scratch — turning a vision or a specific need into a functional, aesthetic, eco-friendly, and industrially viable product.
“Many projects start with a very specific customer request. Our role is to listen, analyze the technical constraints, and respond with agility and efficiency,” explains Benoît, Sales Manager.

A striking example of personalized packaging? A paper bag designed to hold corn, with a precisely cut window shaped like an ear of corn!
“It’s both a technical challenge and a bold marketing choice. That kind of detail grabs attention while enhancing the product. But for us, it also involves significant development work: thinking through the shape, position, size, type of cut, window material, and durability,” he adds. Fortunately, at Semoulin Packaging, commercial and technical teams work hand-in-hand to create the best possible final product.
The advantage of experience in the packaging industry
This adaptability is also built on the team’s hands-on experience. Jacques Semoulin, whose portrait was recently published, perfectly embodies this spirit of invention and resourcefulness. A trained engineer, he designed, developed, and sometimes even built entire machines to meet very specific demands. In the early days, he didn’t hesitate to machine the parts himself to bring innovations to life.
Even today, his “homegrown” approach lives on in the workshops. With every new project, the team draws on a set of standardized modules — a true industrial construction set — which can be assembled, adapted, and modified to meet the client’s needs. This modular logic, a core part of the company’s DNA, allows Semoulin Packaging to remain fast and efficient in delivering tailor-made solutions.
Tools adapted to one-of-a-kind packaging forms
Machines aren’t always built to handle client creativity — so at Semoulin Packaging, they’re adapted. Especially the die-cutting lines. Originally, these machines could only cut a single window per package. But a customer request for maximum product visibility led the team to thoroughly rework the machinery. Now, they can cut up to three windows and apply several mesh strips.
The result? A 100% paper package with two large windows offering excellent visibility — without compromising environmental ethics or production speed. In short, fully customized packaging aligned with the client’s identity.
An environmental — and logistical — advantage
Customization isn’t just about looks — it’s also functional. For example, Semoulin Packaging developed a 100% paper packaging solution for sugar sticks, free of polyethylene and sealed with heat lacquer. Not only is it more eco-friendly, it also allows air to escape during filling. This leads to a real volume gain: transport boxes are up to 20% more space-efficient.
“This is a major logistical and environmental advantage. Less air means fewer trucks, which means lower emissions — and less waste for the client,” the project team sums up.
Customizing your paper packaging means driving innovation
This tailored approach also keeps Semoulin Packaging at the forefront of innovation. Developing custom projects means continuously exploring new materials, inventing closure systems, and testing paper compatibility with conservation or cooking needs.
Take the “microwaveable” potato packaging, for example — designed for busy consumers. Composed of over 70% paper, its micro-perforated design turns the bag into a pressure cooker. In just 7 minutes in the microwave, your potatoes are ready! This solution took months of development and has become both a commercial and technical success.
Above all, a culture of closeness
This ability to personalize is also rooted in a close relationship with clients. “We have a lot of conversations early on, we share samples, we make adjustments. Our clients know they can count on us to bring their ideas to life — even the wild ones.”
This proximity, combined with a central location in Europe and strong responsiveness, makes Semoulin Packaging a trusted partner for brands looking for agile packaging solutions.
